During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, when uncertainty and isolation defined daily life, I contributed a series of two posters to the Stay Safe, Stay Sane project, an initiative by design studio Lennarts & De Bruijn.
This project invited designers to create visual messages that could uplift, encourage, and connect people as they navigated the challenges of lockdown and social distancing. The posters were displayed throughout the city of The Hague, transforming public space into a platform for hope and solidarity.
In my approach, I aimed to create visually striking designs that would catch the eye in the urban environment, while also offering layered meanings. Rather than focusing solely on direct messaging, I wanted to evoke a sense of reflection and resilience through form, color, and composition. Each poster became an experiment in how abstraction and design elements could communicate emotion, inviting viewers to momentarily pause, feel seen, and find a spark of strength.
Together, the two posters form a visual dialogue—a balance between chaos and calm, restriction and openness—mirroring the emotional landscape of that time. They serve not only as reminders to “stay safe” and “stay sane,” but as small beacons of creativity in a period when imagination felt more necessary than ever.
